“zaff” light-sculpture is part of the “safran or spices” or “zafferano o spezie”project. It all started off with the designing a light sculpture (a luminaire) to create a “mood” or an “ambiance” that would incorporate within its geometrical structure partial synesthetic research. In short, aiming at obtaining a feeling of “feng shui” with the use of appropriate lighting.

Shaping this “living” luminaire which breathes the air and reacts to atmospheric conditions –just like a human being-was meant to confer sensations of well-being. An additional add-up to this hedonistic project was the option of implementing an olfactory element within its structure.

The innovative LED light source of the “zaff” further accentuated the benefits of natural light, enhancing and rendering its beautiful color, while adding a sensation of wellness with the addition of the olfactory element. The aim was to obtain a holistic experience. A sensorium experience with SSL lighting already as early as in 2004.
